In conversation with Pieter Damen, Senior Site Manager for Green Spaces & Environment: “I felt right at home here”

We sat down with Pieter Damen, senior project manager at BU Groen & Omgeving. Anyone who meets him immediately notices his passion: a love for green spaces and people. He explains how he A-kwadraat at A-kwadraat , why he feels at home there, and what makes working at BU Groen & Omgeving so special.
How did you A-kwadraat at A-kwadraat ?
After twelve years in the windows and doors industry and a number of management positions at, among others, the municipality of Balen and in the logistics sector, Pieter ended up at A-kwadraat. “I’ve always had a passion for green spaces, ” he says. “But I missed the challenge and the human aspect. At A-kwadraat , I A-kwadraat both. From day one, it felt warm and human—a breath of fresh air compared to the industrial sector. But make no mistake! Here, we’re working together toward a clear goal, and expectations are high.”
What is a typical day like?
“Every day starts at 8 a.m. with a brief meeting with the eight customized service coaches. After that, our teams—comprising a total of about 50 customized service staff—head out to visit clients. During the day, my tasks include preparing quotes, handling client inquiries, drawing up schedules, and developing my vision for the business unit. Around 4:30 p.m., we reconvene and wrap up the day with a brief review.”
“Since the personalized coaches are always out in the field, we’ve recently started scheduling a monthly session to delve deeper into certain issues. These sessions are intended to provide structure, a voice, and growth.”
What do you appreciate about A-kwadraat?
“I feel very supported here. Employees are given the freedom to do ‘their own thing,’ and there’s a strong focus on employee well-being. Yes, I’m exactly where I belong here. It feels like coming home.”
“In addition to the warm and collegial atmosphere, I’ve also noticed that each and every one of our people possesses an incredible level of expertise. The standard is very high, and I have a lot of respect for that.”
How do you view the future of BU Groen & Omgeving?
“The business unit is growing and will continue to focus on new projects, innovation, sustainability, and circularity in the coming years. We are investing in a new line of machines, expanding our knowledge of plants, and continuing to prioritize training for our employees.”
